Welcome to the Pier Dances!

Welcome to the Pier Dances!

In conjunction with the Floatilla weekend, on Friday 2nd August we are organising Pier Dances in Pihlajasaari which is open to everyone! You can join us on the island via water bus for the evening to enjoy the sunset and music in good company. We will start the activities around 6PM and the party will continue long into the night. There is a campsite on Eastern Pihlajasaari, so you can bring a tent and stay overnight if you wish, or the last ferry from the island to the mainland leaves at 9PM.

The Dances will take place on Itäinen Pihlajasaari (Eastern Pihlajasaari) on the rocks by the sea close to the camping area, as shown roughly on the map in this email. In case you get lost on the way, you can ask for more information on Floatilla’s own Telegram channel, where we will announce the exact location with a map of the island closer to the date. There is a restaurant and a kiosk on the island, but we recommend bringing your own drinks and snacks from the mainland. There is a BBQ pit by the campsite if you wish to grill something. If the weather looks particularly bad on the day in question, the event may have to be rescheduled to another date.

The idea of the Pier Dances (or Laituritanssit) is to emulate the spirit of the traditional Finnish Lavatanssit (or Barn dance), but in Teekkaripurjehtijat style by the seaside. However, in these dances you don’t have to be a tango master, you can dance as you like, alone or in pairs, or just enjoy the atmosphere sittin’ on the dock of the bay. You can already get into the dancing mood by listening to the Pier Dances official playlist here.

You don’t need to sign up for the Dances, it is enough to show up to the event. We follow the safer space policy, which means we do not accept any kind of harassing or discriminatory behaviour, so let’s respect the boundaries of our dance partners .

See you at Pihlajasaari!
